Hey all i am looking at getting a redfin prochilodus:headbang2instead of some silver dollars, but can't find much info on them, other then their prices at different stores. can any of you prochilodus keepers out there help me? i want to know everything i should know about their care and habits. thanks.:D

Keep 1 per tank unless the tank is huge 500 gallon plus. They will kill each other. They are peaceful to other types of fish. Love algae and veggies, They can max out at 18 inches but will take a while to get anywhere near that size. Always cruise the tank one of my favorites just that my tanks are filled to capacity at present.

so they get 18" i thought they only got 12", oh well. that still fits the tank, its a 125. so they eat algea, guess thats a plus. and only keep one. thank you sooooo much. anything else i should know.

Very personable fish mine will actually let me pet his nose during feeding time. They eat absolutely everything after a while mine loves zucchini on a clip. They do grow fairly slow I've had mine for almost 2 years and he is about 10" - 11". They are serious jumpers a lid is an absolute must. When i moved him into my 180 he went through the lid and landed 5 feet from the tank. But overall great fish one of my favorites.

my flagtail jumped out when i put it in a new tank, but hasnt flown since. they do get some serious hangtime.

I have two in my 450g, they get along together well. One is about 9-10" and the other 5-6". When the previous owner had them the smaller beat up the larger pretty good in a 90g, so have them in a large tank if ya want more then one.
