In the caiman den
my female lion head is about 7 months old. About 3 or 4 weeks ago i tried breeding her. She has since gotten bigger and very recently her nipple have swollen. I let her out today and she started rubbing her chin on stuff. then she hopped on the males cage and hopped around. when i went to pet her she started making a screaming noise.:WHOA: this is new, she hasnt does this ever. then i went to pet her again she did it again then lunged and bit me:irked:. She has always been loving and very friendly. Is this her, just now ready to breed? Or is she nervous and scared? Could she be getting ready to birth?

any and all help would be great

she sounds like she is carrying, have you given her any vitamins? or supplements in her water? don't try to pet her again i think, until she calms down if not she may bite you again if she feels threatened. or if you feel uncertain you could always take her for an xray i think. thats what the vets do over here...but i dont know if they do the same for where you are...?

I don't know much about them, but you need to start googling...

You research BEFORE breeding and owning an animal. You should have talked with a breeder, and done loads of researching before trying to breed one...

Remember, breeding anything can go very wrong, and the female and/or babies could die, become sick, or she could reject them, and you would have to find another doe with babies who would accept or they will die.

Yes, if you think she may be pregnant and is late.

i read alot before trying to breed. But i read nothing about sudden crying and aggresiveness. i know there is alot of risks involved but after thinking alot i decided to do it. There really is not alot of info on what to expect and i figured id ask for some help.
anybody else able to help?

She could just be pregnant. You have to imagine how much her hormones are changing, it's stressful and she will not be herself.
Get in touch with a breeder. Look up one and give them a call if it still has you concerned.

It sounds like you rabbit is getting ready to give birth. rabbit gestation is 28-31 days, so it could be any day (next time write down the day of breeding).

You need to prepare a nest box for her if you haven't already. It should be a wooden box with a roof and a low front. Fill it with clean hay, the doe will line it with her own fur.

The chin-rubbing is normal. The dewlap will grow during pregnancy. Not only is it a fat reservoir, but it is also used to keep the babies warm. The mother rabbit will lose fur on it's dewlap to allow more heat to reach her young, much like a broody hen will lose its breast feathers.

The aggressiveness is also normal, she will continue to be aggressive after the babies are born but will eventually return to normal. :)

Good luck and get that nest box built quick if you haven't already.

i used to breed New Zealand whites. Like Dan said-if she is pregnant, you need a to put a breeding box in there and some straw-she will start pulling fur from her dewlap (its all that fluffy fur right under her chin) and putting that in her box. you need to give her a box or safe place to give birth-if not she will have them out in the open-and exposed babies will die from getting too cold or stepped on by mom.

i have never had a rabbit scream unless he/she was in extreme pain. IF you can take her to the vet, i would just to see if she is pregnant, and what is going on. if she is due to birth, she may be having birthing problems or a baby may be stuck somewhere..or may be having muscle contractions.

either way, her behavior could be that she is trying to protect herself and is in birthing mode.. i would say she is due to have babies-and get that birthing box in there for her.

pics of her and him(yes i know he isnt a lionhead)
the last 2 pics is her as a baby.
will this green thing work for nesting? She also has a large cardboard tube she hides in
