Any reliable nitrate test kits?

I've been using the API one, and with all the misc. shaking and everything i can never seem to get a reliable reading. It often says my tap water has >40ppm nitrate. i am doing this right, correct?

Add 10 drops bottle 1 to water
Shake water
Shake bottle 2 vigerously for 30 seconds
add 10 drops bottle 2
shake for one minute
wait 5 minutes

I do exactly what you do except I don't "shake water". I go right to shaking bottle #2 after adding 10 drops of bottle #1.

I'd like to find an affortalbe nitrate meter, if they exist.

your water may be that high ... call your water company
