I picked up a rhom around 1" or less a week or so ago. And was just looking for any special care tips for piranha fry.

right now its feeding on guppie/endler new born fry.

temp is 78-80 degree's

live plants and drift wood.

I have only seen him eat 1 time. But the fry are disappearing so I beleive he is eating OK. I am changing 50% of the water 2x weekly.

I plan on waiting a couple of months and then treating for internal parasites. As I beleive it is wild caught.

Anything else I need to be doing?

I have kept several rbp's in the past but this is my first black. And never one this small.

Nice pick up. Your set up sounds great for him/her. Photos please.:D

you can also try to gut load those fry with high quality flakes so when your p eats them it also eats all those high quality flakes too. blood worm/black worms are also good food for that size p.
how big is the tank you keep it in right now?

Its in a 10g right now. Was in a 29g for 2days but i could not monitor it very well in that big of a tank, so i moved it.

I have around 500g worth of tanks running right now up to 2x 125g's so upgrading when needed is no problem.

I have been trying for pics since he came home but the little guy is hard to get. But i will add something here soon probably of poor quality. lol

thanks

Rhoms grow slow, as juvies they can be very shy but they do like to swim. Low light to no light and low traffic reduces stress. P's IMO are one, if not the easiest fish to keep. They accept a wide variety of aquatic foods. Mine eats - talipia fillet, salmon fillet, market shrimp, silver slides, and large krill. They will eat fowl and mammalia however animals contain fats that are undigestable, as does fowl depending on the butters or oils used to cook it. Boiled Turkey is a good treat but never a staple. Odds are you might not see your Rhom eat for a long time - they like their privacy when eating. They also as juvies aren't really hogs, might just nibble on the food. I've not known P's to be prone to internal parasites pretty much just Ick as an external usually caused by feeders or poor water quality. However P's are soft/small scale fish and are prone to excessive even fatal scale burn by meds or chlorine. IMO - best way to grew them out is give'm plenty of swimming room, clean water, overfilter, a good variety of aquatic meats, stir clear of feeders and tankmates, privacy, and patients.

ok, in 10g is good because like you said you'll be easier to monitor it. just keep the water clean (bare bottom is probably better now) and power feed few times a day.

So I figured out howto get him out and about. Feed the feeders. lol

So am I correct, is it a itty bitty RHOM?

The last pic is his ANGRY FACE (at 1")

cute little guy, looks really mean in the last pic :).
at this size it'll be almost impossible to tell if it's a rhombeus since almost all the serrasalmus babies look similar but at least it looks like a serrasalmus, IMO.
grow it out a bit so we can have a better idea rather it's a serra or pygo, the bigger it gets the easier to ID what species it is.
by feeder I hope you don't mean goldfish feeder but I see you have guppies in there so that's better than goldfish. you can of course use feeder but can also try to train it on pellet, easier at this stage than when its bigger.

Ok thanks we will see what he blossom's into.

And by feeder I mean home bred endler and guppie fry. I think this little guy could possibly be eaten by a feeder gold fish at this stage. lol

You all like pics right.
