any suggestions that have been known to work before

I crossed a male sajica with a female convict X spilirum. I posted a thread a long while ago about it. Others have achieved the same cross with similar results.
Right now I have a male cutteri that is pairing off with a female sajica X con X spilirum cross.

Convicts will hybridize with many different species...

What will you do with the mutt offspring you create?

Many people criticize the creation of hybrids as then have the potential to get in the hands of others either mislabeled or misunderstood and then pollute otherwise pure strains.

While I can understand certain cross breeding to create specific monrel species such as FlowerHorns, Super Red Texas, etc... I have to agree that random cross breeding holds much more negative potential than positive...

You may find it much more rewarding and much less damaging to select a harder to find species, breed them and make them available locally.

There is a reward that comes with breeding fish for the sake of breeding fish. I understand your concerns and share them with you. I will not be introducing the offspring (should there be any) into the hobby. I will raise one or two, simply to see what they look like as adults, and will feed the rest to my other fish.

There is a myth that suggests that people who like hybrids negatively impact the hobby and take no value from what nature already provides. In fact many flowerhorn keepers (myself included) also keep pure strains, both wild and farmed.

There are many reasons why people take up this hobby. It is easy to pass judgement on a person without knowing any more about them than the fish they keep. I thank you nc_nutcase, for inquiring with a (hopefully) non-judegmental eye and for pointing out the responsibility we have to the hobby and to the fish we keep.

its a constant fear... i swear i fad a convict x gravel hybrid... im pretty sure i finally got rid of all my cons..
