Do you have hard water? If so do it. None of mine really look like that. Most of mine are pretty clear. My main male, is pitch black but all my mature females are clear. The off spring is coming out clear with stripes like the second pic. I have prego females everytime I look around, often 2 or more a month. They breed like rabbits in my tank. I started with 10, one died but after a few weeks I had 5, yep 5 pregos!! Atm I have 2, and both of those have already had a batch. Im well over 30 in my 10g but so many plants i never see them all. Untill you get alot you will rarely see them as these are not super personable shrimp like some are.

I kept htem for 2 years or so, yellow cheek (caridina spinata). I also still keep malawas (not one of the super colorful species).

they are neat shrimp, but VERY small adn demanding. Their source water actually has high pH but very low hardness, so hard water is a misnomer. They also like things quite warm.

Aye, as msjinkzd said, they like high temp, high PH but low total disolved solids IIRC.

As far as I know, if you are willing to make the paramaters correct and spend the effort seting up the tank correctly, then any shrimp should be doable.

If you live in a temperate climate though, then Sulawesi should be easier to keep than Crystal Reds, and provide just as much colour if you ask me

Thanks for all the info, i actually live in Hong Kong, so kinda in hot tropical climate which helps, plus don't have hard water which is also a bonus... only tricky thing would be the high PH? does any one know what PH would be best for them in the long run?
