Hello everyone. I am thinking about trying to pair my Maroon clown. Want to try to breed them. Bred cichlids now want to try marine fish. My lone maroon is in a 36g bowfront. Already hosted a bubbletip anenome. HE/she is 2.5in. The maroon i want to get as a potential mate is like 3.5 close to 4. Any tips on what to do. Anyone had success in pairing maroons? Need all the tips i can get before i purchase the potential mate.

The best way is to introduce a group of young maroons at the same time. Maroon clowns are sexually dominant. All start as males and the biggest most aggressive will then become a female with the next largest becoming her mate. Other smaller males would stay as non-breeding males. In the home aquarium any single maroon clown will become female. Females are significantly larger than males and are more aggressive. Juveniles and smaller adult males are bright red in color. Females become maroon to nearly black as they mature. They are difficult to pair. A female will most likely kill any male put into her territory. If you can get them to pair they should spawn fairly easily. (from Tropical Fish Forums)

Thanks! Might just leave it alone. My maroon now is about 2 in maybe 3. The potential mate i had picked out is around 4. The one i have is reddish in color but has alot of black on its fins. I want to try but dont want any casualties.

you can buy a pair at www.liveaquaria.com or go to your LFS and buy the biggest one and the smallest one you can find or go to search MOFIB on yahoo and join the forum and buy a pair.
