Is it possible to keep a few royal plecos together.
I have my watermelon royal that is about 6-8''. I would like to get a L191 or 2, and a L27 pleco. How are the panaques together? I should note that most likely the new Panaques will most likely be smaller than the melon, so the melon will probably be the dominant one, and I know I will have to get more driftwood.
I know the size royals can reach, so I can raise out the ones I like the best and rehome the other.
Also, do they make driftwood flakes or pellets for Panaque and other plecos???
I know my melon eats driftwood, but he hasn't touched anything else. I think he ate cucumbers. What do you recommend? How can you tell a panaque is eating?

I have similar sized royals, a 191 and 190. They squabble and do a weird vibrating shake at each other sometimes. Occasionally they have split fins. Other times they hang out with each other without issues. I have a smaller 191 that just minds it's own business. I think given enough space they will be fine.

Mine eat (besides wood) zucchini, green beans, yam, potato, algae wafers, Hikari cichlid gold, fresh fish, raw shrimp.

Good to hear!
Royals are so awesome!
I have been giving my fish raw shrimp and tried getting him to take cucumber, but will try zucchini, green beans and potato.

BTW, who can you tell when a royal pleco or any pleco is eating driftwood?

Brown poop everywhere, lol.

But seriously, depending on the wood it should look like it's been sanded. I have some softer driftwood and it looks like someone took coarse sandpaper too it. The Malaysian wood and Mopani just looks cleaned.

Just bust off a chunk of zucchini and stab it onto a fork. I don't bother blanching it. I do the same with the green beans. You can try soaking them in some water with a garlic clove mushed up in it. Garlic seems to get them interested.

Yea, there is a lot of poop everywhere in the tank, most of it is long and black though, but it does look like pleco poop.
My driftwood does look like it has been sanded.

I blanched it a bit to make it a little softer for the silverdollars too.
But I will soak it in garlic water before feeding.
