Any type if lungfish in 200g?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
You can fit a WAL or SAL in there with no trouble at all; the minimum aquarium size for a WAL is 100 gallons and the minimum aquarium size for a SAL is 180 gallons. I don't remember exactly what the other ones need, but a MAL or SpAL would probably be fine in there, too. AULs and GALs are definitely not viable options for various reasons. The main thing is the aquarium footprint rather than the overall volume; a larger footprint is preferred by these fishes.

You can have tankmates with a SAL or AUL but not with a WAL or another African lungfish (MAL, SpAL, & GAL).

Check out the one link in my signature if you're having trouble finding a lungfish that you like in your area.

I <3 my SAL! I've had him for 3 years now and he's been an awesome fish. He is very active and peaceful towards tankmates! Plus they are super pretty when they are young!!!

That's fantastic news. Which would you recommend for a first timer?

The easiest ones to come by are WALs and SALs, but a MAL or SpAL would work, too, provided that you can find them for sale. Of those four, the WAL stays the smallest (36") while the SAL and SpAL are in the middle (48"), and the MAL is the largest out of those four (72"). WALs and SALs are typically the cheapest ones, too; the other species of lungfish cost a bit more.

Both the WAL and SAL are easy to keep, the choice should come down to whether or not you want tankmates. WAL will kill everything, whereas SAL are almost totally harmless.

x2.

You need to make sure that the tankmates for the SAL are either way too small or too larger to be considered a viable food source to help prevent any losses.

Alright thanks guys, I'll end up getting a SAL their at pretty much every pet store around me I'll hold tight for the smallest one I can find when I upgrade my tank in about 2 years when I move out of my parents house. For now all my friends are way to small but by the time I move and switch over tanks they should all be fine, If not I'll make any changes I have to in order to get one :D
