Any Uaru out there?

Picked up an uaru from the LFS yesterday. About 6" or so, he was in a tank with a red parrot and a GT that were about the same size, and he was beat up pretty good (I'm guessing by the GT).

Anyway he seems to be settling in nicely. I'd actually never seen one of these in real life before, only pix...seems like a very cool fish. I love his bright red eyes.

Anyway any info you guys have about them is welcome, as in growth rate and temperament. I understand they're pretty mellow as cichlids go. I've kept lots of severums over the years, and he kind of reminds me of a sev.

they grow medium to fast will take about 18 months to be fully mature. tempermant is peacefull (so no r.d. or green terror for tank mates) they love to eat plants, they do like warmer temps tank should be at a min of 82.

Edit: Apparently I got a pretty good deal on mine, $20 for a 6". Looks like folks are paying ~$30 for 2" babies.

that sites real slow, just ask your questions here and you will get answers.

anyway they also like to eat bogwood along with plants as advised, they grow pretty well and not too fast or slow, quite peacefully but can hold there own if needed, not very territorial.
feed them on various cichlid pellets.
