i have a Uruguayan tank setup, trying to keep that them and im looking for a pleco that is collected from that country. the tank will be unheated and prolly get in the upper 60s, 70degree right now with the outside temp 35 at night and my apartment set at 70, in winter and upper 70s low 80s for summer. i've heard bristlenose plecos and rubberlips can do cooler temps but would they be collected from this region?

there are some pics from flipe's website but im not sure what kind they are. oh yeah the tank is a 75g and will have 6-10 cory, 5 gymnos, and a pike

There are lots and lots of them - often multiple types per waterway. Just fewer in the hobby. I brought some back but don't have the skills to breed them.

Here are some pictures of a few from Aguas Blancas in South Central Uruguay.

you just feed my eagerness for wanting to go in a collecting trip even more.

Like said above, A. cirrhosus (there are others such as A. taunayi, but don't know what your chances are of getting them) or one of the many Hypostomus are your best bet. I like H. luteus personally, but they are a bit pricey. There are also Pterygoplichthys anisitsi, but like many aren't particularly common to find. I'm sure other Pterygoplichthys species will cope with your parameters.

There are also many whiptails that will do fine, Rineloricaria anitae/stellata/tropeira/sanga/setepovos/zaina were recently added to the large list they have over there.

O. flexilis is also found in uruguay, but don't know if otos will be too small for you.

It's nice to have fish from the same country admitadly, but then not all species are in the same areas anyway. Any species around la plata basins and surrounding areas may be suitable I'd imagine.

I'm glad - go on the trip - you'll have a blast!

Yes - I brought a couple little whiptails back...but unfortunately lost them to nippy livebearers. I think Ken Davis and maybe Scott Arney have some, though. They were really orange in the field.

I have a couple ancistrus still from Macedo and Aguas Blancas. I brought a male of the Aguas Blancas to Aquafest so hopefully someone took a picture :)
