It's a blast. The beauty of it is the slow speed of the boat....between 9 and 11 mph as opposed to 18-24 mph for wakeboarding or 28+mph for skiing. The falls generally aren't painful at the slower speed. Wake boats churn up the water with their big wakes (even bigger for wake surfing) and are generally disliked by other boaters for roughing up the water. They are even banned in some areas of the US for "damaging" shorelines. The ironic part is that while wake surfing generates tsunamis for other boats, calm smooth water is preferred to wake surf on. A rope is used to get up with, but is thrown down when surfing..so there's nothing to hang on to when things get rough (other boat wakes)..it's a total balancing act and shifting weight to speed up or slow down.
The wake boat industry has gone totally crazy, with many new boats costing more than a new house. Here's an example of a 2022 used wake boat on sale for $425,000
