I live in PA and the Pennsylvania fish commision has "Lepomis megalotis" listed as an endangered species because of it's such small range in pa (actually numbers are good in the few areas it's found in the state). What's weird is after looking at usgs maps it appears that only Lepomis peltastes (northern longear) are found in pa and megalotis shouldn't even be present. It may also be a matter of the pfbc still considering them both one species though while they've recently been declared separate ones. Obviously I found a loophole and can keep northern longears but my all time dream sunfish is a longear, especially the southern strains. I've already emailed the pfbc about this matter but over a month later and still nothing, I figured I'd try anyway. Is there any possible way for me as an average person like me to keep Lepomis megalotis in PA without getting in trouble?

Anybody? Are there any licenses or permits that aren't impossible to obtain that would let me keep longears for aquaria? I wish pa would let you keep endangered species as long as they were obtained out of state, that'd make things a lot better.

Think I may have found a loophole! Would it be legal if I got a hybrid longear? Specifically Lepomis megalotis X Lepomis peltastes. If so I may also look into getting a gulosus X cyanellus hybrid.
