i jus picked up a 15" silver from my buddy, he had put it in with a 26" silver that was hella dominant of its tank. the lil guy got beat to ****. so many scales are missing it made me sad. so i took it from him for free hoping to save it. its so skinny because it prolly hasn't eatin in like a week and its been so damn stressed. i put it in my tank and it seemd to get weaker. started swimming sideways, upside down. now its tail is like dropped n its jus floating with its tail slightly curled at the bottom of the tank floating in an upright position. its still breathing. it looks around because i can see its eyes moving. but its jus sittin there. is there anything i can do for it? im scared for it and really dont want it to die.

dang...can you put him in his own tank??

add some salt to the water to help him heal, offer quality food, keep the lights off, and hope for the best. I've seen some pretty rough arowanas come back from near death.

Rally stole my thunder. I was just going to say (as he did) Lights out, salt. I might add, to try not to force feed him as this will only mess up the water. Remember, fish can go quite a while without eating (and often do in the wild) so he won't starve to death. Try a little food once a day. It sounds like he might be past the point of no return, but I've seen wierder things. Hope everything works out.

I would also, beyond what was already said, add a bubble wand. Higher oxygen will help quite a bit.

well he's moving around now. lights have been out since i put him in. he is no longer jus floating in an upright position. up top like he should be but still looks like crap. im gonna add salt n melafix today. if i had an xtra tank i'd separate him but i dont. ill keep you guys posted. he's not gettin picked on like he was in my friends tank so hopefully he makes a recovery. i love arowanas to much to see this guy die.

HE IS RIGHT the only other thing to add is keep doing water changes 3 a week add more air to the tank . and maybe turn temp up a little .

hope he is ok .

Adds some blackwater extract as well, should do him some good. good luck.

also i was advised by someone here in japan, that when an arowana is sick you should lower the water level to a few inches. it supposed to help the aro rest and recover. This is supposedly a good technique when acclimating a very small arowana. ive never done it though.
