Hey Everyone,

Just curious how would you become a zoologist. Such as what courses would you recommend in college as well as tips. Im graduating high school soon and I've been interested in working with animals all my life. Defiantly not the average 17 year old...

I contacted member Bronxzoofrank as would of been probably the best member to talk about this since I live 20 min from the bronx zoo use to be only 5 min but still.

Thanks A Million

Look into ecology, enviormental science or husbandry. These fields and most of your typical work with animal jobs don't pay will and have limited employment opportunities. If it's what you want to do then you should. Eventually you will find something. Some other fields you should look into is the veterinarian, enviormental engineering, biochemistry and genetics are also pretty good fields.

Most important thing is experience. Look for a job or internship in the field you want to work in.

Work for fish and game as a warden. You work with animals and are also police officer. I think its also a requirement that you have a bachelors degree in biology or some college units in biology. Check out their website for your state.

There are lots of various jobs related to animals. Ironically, many of them need VERY different backgrounds.
I'd say pick what you want to do, then figure out what it takes to get there. A basic "biology degree" is a good start. Hands on experience will be the best thing to start now. I'd hire someone with two years real experience over someone with only a 4 year degree in my field.
