anybody here ever breed crayfish?

im about to get a fahaka and was thinking about breeding them...

any info would be great!

anybody?!?!?

You're going to need a pretty elaborate setup if you're planning on breeding crays in large numbers for the fahaka.
Before I get carpal tunnel from typing out the necessities, what species are you planning on raising?

if its gonna be elaborate, i will go with buying them instead...lol

The reason I say elaborate is because, depending on species, crays can be territorial and cannabalistic. The newly hatched/detached larvae even more so. Therefore, alot of space and hiding spaces are required to maintain them to adulthood (feeding-size). Males are best kept in a 1-cray:1-tank setup until you want to breed them to a 4-female tank. Then the breeders have to be separated. Once females are berried, they need to be separated out.

Small 1.5" dwarf crays can be kept in a community so long as the tank is a good size. A dozen breeders can be housed in a 55. But, again, berried females have to be isolated and the larvae raised away from adults.

thanks for the info odd, again ya sold me on just buying them!!!

lol

They're not that hard once you're set up for them. I raised 2 batches of 200,000 at my last place and I'm setting up to raise 2 batches (annual yield) of 500,000 at my new facility.

i use to catch freshwater cray fish in the spring when the water i still cold but trying warm up. i let all the females go when i find them because their is more for me in the future road. I alway constist of at leat 2-3dozen hard eggs underneath it's tail. the Probally need alot of rock and other good hiding spots so their eggs can be protected. I have caught two crawdad mating when they are in my hands ocasionaly. the male has a hard spine in the middle of its tail (which is it penis). the cold melting spring tempatures keep the water coming in. which is clean water help other fishes and invertabrates spawn because it clean and sterlize the water.

Hope this may help you...

i have heard they can be bred in captivity..

And, if you had read my post, you'd know that. I raise 2 species of crays at my hatchery (RCCR- Red-Claw Crayfish Ranch).
