I know it's kind of a long shot - not too many Oregonians on this site - but has anyone ever fished Wickiup Reservoir in Central Oregon?

I fished there once as a kid, but I was pretty young so I don't remember much except the flooded forests (they didn't cut large stands of trees before flooding the reservoir). It is about 10,000 acres full, but a lot of the lake is quite shallow, around 20'. The Deschutes River channel is around 60'. This is a lot shallower than most reservoirs around here. They say Kokanee fishing is good but trophy Brown Trout (up to 28 pounds!) are the big draw.

We are going to be staying there for four days this July and I am curious if anyone has any successful trolling techniques they want to share.

I haven't been there, but I grew up trolling for trout in eastern Washington. I loved it, probably the best type of fishing. I used leaded line with a 4 ft leader, a wet fly with a piece of night crawler. Worked like a charm every time.

I haven't but a guy I worked for in high school did...he use two road runner jigs tied together about 6 to 12 inches apart...normally had the one on the end a bit bigger...like 1/16 to an 1/8 setup...seemed to work well for him

I assume you're using a fly pole? I don't know much about fly-fishing, I tried it a few times as a kid but never really got it down... :irked:

That's interesting. Do you know if he used any kind of trolling lure (like a flasher or dodger)?

Thanks for the response.

No, it was a heavy rod and reel setup for trolling with lead-core line. If you like trolling, it is worth looking into.
