Anybody ever have 2 different species pair bond?

SO- I wanted to keep a Red and a Zebrina in my 500 together... from speaking to a few serious pike guys I was told it can be tough to come pikes together. Well after messing around with a couple different of each species with no luck of them coexisting, I not only have 2 that get a long but seem to have paired up! They are always together and fight other fish together guarding the same territory.... is this as odd as i seam to think or has anyone seen this before?

Really nice fish. Glad the pairing js working out.

How quickly did you remove the ones that didn't work out? Was it obvious fighting from the second they got into the tank or did it take a few days? Thanks for any insight. Thinking about trying a couple pikes
