Anybody ever heard of a Cuban hybrid?

Haven't seen any. Cubans are the only native cichlid where they are from which may play a role in that

There are. The reason why there aren't that many Cuban hybrids is not due to where they're from, but due to their rarity and (lack of) popularity. Check the Hybrids section, there's a hybrids example thread there with an example of a Cuban hybrid.

There are some cuban X paraneetroplus(aka Vieja) hybrids around.
