Anybody Have any Luck with Hoplarchus psittacus?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have a single one in a community. I used to have two but that was a bad idea. The dominant one killed the weaker one. I should've bought more.

I've kept mine withat various tankmates including large crenicichla, oscars, parachromis, paraneetroplus, angelfish, severums, you name it.

They mix well with lots of fish and usually mind their own business except for 2 exceptions I had. First, my crenicichla lenticulata hated it. Second, my hoplarchus hates all chocolate cichlids.

I've had them in planted and unplanned tanks. Mine would shred the leaves of plants if they were in his space and he didn't want them there. If you plant on the fringes of natural territories, you should be fine.

My tap is just over neutral out of the tap and drops a bit to just under neutral with all my wood.

They range in price from 30-40 bucks for a juvenile that's 3 or 4 inches and up to 100 for one that's 9 inches or more. Not cheap but snookn21 and Rapps has them right now at a good price
