I bought one about a week back. Very cool tropical freshwater fish in my opinion. They seem to like staying right at the service. They look very predatory. A nice color flourescent green. Kind of like a minature baracuda or something. I suspect that my Killie killed and ate one of my little neon Tetras. Has anyone known them to behave like that?
my school of tiger barbs tried to nip at his fins, he chased them around for a few minutes and ever since they have left him alone. that's all the aggression i have seen out of mine
I had a pair of ~3" females in my 4' community tank a year or so ago. They were a bit plain but very interesting, and I was always impressed by what they'd try to eat. They'd tackle things my archer fish wouldn't try to swallow. I wanted to get a male to go with them since they were both plump enough to be carrying eggs, but all of the males I saw in stores were small enough to be eaten.
They both jumped out the back of my hood during really hot weather within the space of a few days of each other, before I put mesh over the opening.
Here's one sucking on a cricket.
I bought a male a couple weeks ago, put him in a small community tank. Wasn't sure of what he was when I bought him since he was more colourful with red and orange markings than the gold panchax I usually see. He immediately tried to eat 3mm pellets dropped in for shrimp. He'll usually spit them out once I drop in smaller food. I think he's well on his way to being a threat to the rummynose tetras he shares the tank with.
