Anybody here ever cycle their tank with a turtle before?

Im starting up a new tank and im thinking about just throwing my FRT in there...

:)

What would you say the effects on a turtle would be by throwing it in a "clean" uncycled tank?

I would imagine high ammonia would be bad for a turtle..

but then again people stick RES's in 2 gallons of un-filtered water all the time..

I believe the same as with any other "strong" fish, such as a big cichlid or, in case of SW, a trigger.

As long as you keep a tight rein on developments and do the usual ( used media from known tank, adequate and controlled wc's) I see no problem.

I have never cycled a tank as per protocol and never, ever, have I had a case of new tank syndrome.

I would try it. Remember that FRT's like a higher PH, and higher PH's are more "sensitive" in terms of ammonia toxicity.

Sooo?? did you, or did you not, cycle the bloody tank with the damn turtle? Sooo???

Gonna start it up this weekend...

i dont see why it would be a prob unless it was a big FRT and a small tank, then the water would crap up quicker

keep us posted, ok?
