Hi I am very interested in this fish but I can't find legit info about them. Some say 16 inches is the max size while some say 3 feet. who here keeps them and knows the truth about them??
i also heard that their growth rate is very slow which is good to hear. How long can i keep one in a 75 gallon tank?? Are they aggresive to bichir?? Do they need strong current?? i only have a canister filter and a bubbler.

please feel free to comment your opinions. need as much info as i can.

thanks

dont have practical experience with BATF's, but from what i've heard and seen they get about 3 ft in the wild, so i'd say he'll get at least 2 ft in a large aquarium. 75 gallon i'd say will get you 1-2 years max, depending on how much driftwood and other stuff is cluttering the tank. ATF's have a tendency to bash themselves into things so be careful of your decorations, and you need strong current. A water circulator will be a must in your 75 to give him good conditions to live in. They do grow very slowly as compared to most other small fish, so tankmates are difficult to choose, cause most will outgrow and then make the ATF more skittish, have difficulty feeding him etc ... I'd be careful buying any ATF since they require a very large tank as they grow, and are considered a difficult fish to properly care for. However, if your into it, and do things right they are an awesome fish

They get anywhere from 16"-24" during their lifespan in the home aquaria. This depending on environment and diet but most of them max around 20" from what I've seen. Just my experience with them not saying I know everything :P

They require a lot of current and very clean water that is well oxygenated.

how long can they live and how long did you keep it for?

I've never kept them unless this vatf is actually a batf, but just from what I've read online, they have an average lifespan of 10-15 years in the wild no idea in the home aquaria.
