I had a lone female and have been very concerned about her as she just seems to eat enough to survive but not thrive. I picked up 2 more johannas just a bit smaller than her and now she is a lot more active and eating a lot better. I saw how my juvie xingus would hunt as a pack and was wondering if the johannas did the same?

getting pikes to coexist is sometimes a challenge. how big are your johannas now? i used to have two roam the tank always side by side. if there still small they might coexisit for a while but it might turn ugly then they get larger. you can always try to fight this with some dithers. but so far it seems like its going well and you might as well try to make it work because it can. just make sure to keep and eye out for aggression.

Yeah I have multiple tanks with multiple pikes in them. My 3 Johannas are around 8" and are in with 2 Lucis pikes in a 125. I have 2 cinctas in a 185 with 2 xingus 1s. I also have 3 small xingus 1 I am just starting to grow out. I may add 2 or 3 more to this group. I have 4 Reganis in a 125 with 2 more small ones growing out to join them in the future. I was just courious if others had seen Johannas acting as a pack.

I have two females in my 210. They're about 10" long (the bigger of the two might be pushing 11"...it's been a while since I measured them). So far, there is no aggression between the two, short of a small squabble over food every now and then. Nothing big and never any damage. Mine roam the tank side by side, just like its_an_obsession said. I feed them jewelie fry treats once a week or so. They definitely cooperatively hunt.

tezr... thats pretty awesome that you got several pikes in each tank it seems. i really havent had any muck mixing mine but maybe thats due to the smaller environment. only a 75 gallon. im dying to buy these acutirostris pikes but i jsut need to figure out where to put them. any tricks to having them get along together? were they all together as juvies?

Lots and lots of hiding tubes. At one time I had 3 Xingu1s, 3 Lucis, 1 Johanna female, and 2 Cinctas in the same tank. First the lucis outcast the less dom male and I pulled him as he could not leave his corner. Then the cinctas put the other 2 lucis in the corners so I pulled them. I pulled the lone johanna after introing a couple of catfish for fear she might become a snack like one of the xingus did. Only the Lucis are full grown and showing adult traits so I am probably still sitting on a time bomb..
