They reach about 8", awsome looking catfish, would love to own one some day. I hear they are very shy.

i saw one locally and was gonna grab it. looked a part of the gulper catfish family. i didnt get it after a lil research but i hear there kinda rare.

Didn't realize someone already posted a thread about these guys. I read a source online says they get to be 12" but it doesn't seem like it. Mine ventures out once in a while but not often and with the size of the other cats(12" rtc, 10" tsn, 9" river cat) i'm not surprised he hides a lot.

Wow what a beauty really :) nice wide head what a perfect mini monster you got there... And I love how people always complain about not seeing their smaller cats, and how other people suggest that they are nocturnal... MOST CATFISH ARE NOCTURNAL!! haha that's one of the main reasons why they have barbels... It's like a blind guy with a walking stick!

Actually the main reason for barbels is how cloudy the water is so they can feel around for food. The more barbels a catfish species has generally means how murky the environment is that they come from.

What about all the large cats like rtc, tsn ect. that live in deep river basins? It is really dark down there but I don't know about murky. It's not like some still water swamp. And yes a lot of cats live in muddy water and thats why a lot of them have barbels, thus giving them no real need for good eyesight. Thus why they come out at night while many other fish are sleeping, and they can just slowly find them and then pick them off...
