I have never kept one but now I want to. Where is it native to?

I have heard of them before, and I definitely want one someday. I have never seen one for sale however....

Several were imported back in 2001. I saw them in person but that's the extent of it. They were larger and had what I assume is the adult coloration (more drab). The specimens I saw had been imported from Trinidad under research permits.

This is one of a handful of species thought to exhibit facultative ovoviviparity, meaning they can switch between "live bearing" and "egg laying" modes of reproduction.

Yeah it is from SA.

From Wikipedia -
Helicops angulatus, the Brown-banded Water Snake is an aquatic snake which lives in fresh and brackish water. It is found in tropical South America and Trinidad and Tobago. It grows to a maximum length of 78 cm. It feeds on fish and possibly also freshwater eels and frogs. This species has been reported to be "facultatively ovoviviparous".

My high old HS English teacher would kill me if she knew I just cited Wikipedia.
