Hey Everyone,

My aunt has a yellow nape amazon female and a female red lored amazon. She has them in two different large cages. Both cages 36inch by 28 icn 48 inch. So she was thinking of somehow keeping them together in one cage as the two cages are taking up tons of room. Any ideas on how to introduce them? They have been living in the same room for about 2 years.

Thanks A Million

you can start putting them out together.. and see how they get along.. it is a lot different when two parrots have to live together then it is to be familiar in the same room.. so take it slow and see how it goes.. but give them plenty of space to get away in case trouble breaks out.. what sex are they.

Both females... Im actually sitting here in front of the two sitting on the playstand for the first time. One seens to not like when the other one gets close tho.

I keep a greater sulphur created cockatoo along with an african grey in the same cage.

No discord found apart from the occasional squabbles for fave food bits or seating spot.

I've had the too for longer period than the grey & thankfully he has been very accommodating as long as the grey gives him the desired seniority respect.

The day the grey came home, my too was overly excited to come & meet & greet him. Thankfully, though the grey was a little weary of the too initially, he warmed up to the too & things have been just fine ever since. They have become inseparable now.

I guess Amazon's r a little bit complicated/difficult when it comes to "ownership", becoming overly possessive, not wanting to share their owner friend with any1 else; to the point of attacking & greviously injuring their owner friend for spending time with the other bird!!! Has happened with a friend of mine!!!

It all probably depends on the bird's past, upbringing, personality, general disposition, etc.

You will just have to try putting them together on neutral grounds with enough space to get away from each other if they r not up for it, but not necessarily avoid each other totally. Repeat till things get better over time or u get tired of the exercise!!! REMEMBER TO SUPERVISE THE INTERACTION THROUGHOUT TO AVOID ANY DRASTIC UNTOWARD INCIDENT!!!

Hopefully things will work (fingers crossed). Trial & error is the only way!!!

Best of luck!!!!
