Just wondering if anyone has had success in keeping more than one of this species of wolffish in a tank. I should be getting three 4-5" goldies in a few days :headbang2 :headbang2:headbang2.

I'm planning on keeping them in a 150 with a few bichirs.

urm...
theyre probably gonna kill each other.
they are active and will come accross each other in the tank and probably kill each other.
i had one.
more aggressive than ery ery.
grow to about 18 inches.
i tried keeping three ery ery together
it worked.
but they fought a bit.
then my red SHs ate 2. :(
im gonna try keeping 3 ery together again.
but i need to find bigger ones.
the ones i find now are quite small.
my endli tried to swallow my current one. :(

I was thinking there was a chance of that. I've seen some posts of people keeping multiple but I don't know the outcome of their experience.

Yeah I've had two ery ery and they don't seem very aggressive towards anything but food. One of mine was a bit more active than a common wolf but not much. The one I currently keep is about 7" or so and he pretty much sits around all day like small peice of driftwood.

They're a little more rough than E. erythrinus but not as nasty as the hoplias sp. If you can keep territories established, and have enough visual barriers/concealed hiding places (ie. if you have 3 H. unitaeniatus then have maybe 9 or 10 hiding spots for them to choose from) they should be fine together.

Thanks for the advice, Xiao. I'm going to be constructing a bunch of hideouts in the tank but not some much as to restrict a decent sized swimming area.

Keep some floating plants in there as well (bunches of cabomba or water hyacinth work great) just incase there's an individual who gets evicted from the bottom - he can hide at the surface and still feel somewhat secure.

cool. i have some floating plants now but will add more. xiao, did you try keeping anything else in with your goldies?

how about you, channarox?

i'm pretty sure my hujetas will have to come out of that tank as they hang in the general cruising area of the wolves, but i'm hoping i can keep a few of my bichirs in there.

They did fine with some mid sized c.a cichlids. It's conspecific aggression that you have to watch out for. The wolves actually left the cichlids completely alone and at times teh cichlids would pick at them. The exception would be pike cichlids - both the wolves and the more aggressive pikes tend to dislike anything cigar shaped, and they war constantly when kept together. Keeping some more active, somewhat aggressive cichlids with them would probably help curb their aggression as well. Nothing TOO aggressive that will kill the wolves (no guapotes/midas complex), but maybe fish like synspilum, kraussi, carpintis, gymnogeophaus/satanoperca sp. etc. etc. Larger schooling fish like silver dollars or tinfoil barbs work as well.

I had several, but one turned to be domiannt and I had to get rid of the others.

why'd you have to get rid of the others, Miguel? once you removed the dominant one were there still issues?
