I have glass canopies on all my tanks. The problem I am trying to solve is how to reduce/eliminate the condensation that forms under the canopy.

My water is very hard and I end up with so much calcium build up that it significantly reduces the light passing through it. It's a PITA to remove.

I have the lids propped up about 1/2", but that doesn't help much.

Any ideas?

Make the room(or just the glass) warmer than the tank water?

I agree with this, but how you would make the glass warmer I have no idea.

Also more ventilation under the glass would help... again how you would do this I have no idea

The tanks are in the basement. Some in the unfinished (unheated) side; so raising the room temp would be expensive.

I like the idea of a small fan. I have plenty of computer fans from all the PCs I have made over the years.

The downside of using fans is more evaporation from your tanks.

If your lids fit so tight that its a pain to take them off & scrub them, why not just get a mag-float for the glass tops?
