I got this fish a year ago when buying a tank from someone and never got a name for it. I want another one due to how good it keeps my tank clean and how little waste he has in doing so.

Yeah im gonna have to go with tlindsey on this and call it a golden chinese algae eater. Known for sucking on slime and killing fish and being aggressive when it grows from what I hear.
I do find it odd that his lower body is green though...
Also I’d go with a siamese algae eater or maybe a bristlenose pleco instead of another chinese algae eater.

Unquestionably a golden algae eater. It’s a color morph of the Chinese algae eater. I’ve had a few in my tanks. They are AMAZING at algae cleaning and I’ve had decorations in tanks with plecos COVERED in algae. Once I move the decorations into the tank with a single algae eater, it was clean over night. Two nights tops for larger pieces (large pirate ships)
There’s one at my old LFS thats just about full grown. They won’t sell it to me but I really want it. I’ve noticed it doesn’t eat hair algae because they have that growing in the tank it’s in.

I agree, golden Chinese algae eater. They get to a decent size, my one got around 12cms but I've heard they can get bigger. They can be aggressive, mine used to chase my angels around and was always fighting with a red tail shark, I guess this was because they have a similar body shape so not sure 2 of them could live together without brawling. They like to munch on a bit of zucchini if you drop a slice in once in a while. My one jumped out one day and that was the end of him so keep the lid nice and tight. You used to see dyed ones for sale a lot with half blue or pink bodies but thankfully they aren't around anymore.

Thank you all for your responses.Definintely is a golden algae eater. I just never knew what to search! Have a live plant aquarium with a lot of algae and hair algae. After about 30 hours the tank looks brand new! The plus side is they don’t crap all over your tank in doing so like a normal pleco would. Definitely would recommend these guys!
