I saw these two bottom dwellers at the market the other day. Looks like catfishes BUT "whiskers" look wrong (and only two). Mouth full of hooklike teeth too (rather uncatfish i think).

The body shape suggests catfish and definitely a bottom dweller. The weight of the whole one is 4.8kg while the one chopped in half is 4kg

Apparently it is not uncommon in Laos (called approx. "crocodile fish"). Meat is yellowish. Supposedly nice tasting. Lives in rapids and in caves. Anyone keeping one of these? Pics? Common Name? Scientific Name?

I take the opportunity of so many fish experts in one place to ask this question.

Wow thanks, dudzy (you would not happen to have one as a pet would you?)

A scientific and hobby name to this monster at last. Hmmmm, now to find one.

I did not have luck raising wild caught fish ... Asian RTCs were disaster - i had two caught in the wild. One went belly up on the second month. The second lasted almost six months but did not grow (noticibly at all) - yes, it was eating prior to its demise.

If you get one pics are a must. That would be a cool fish but those teeth look like cleaning could be hazardous.

Bargarius yarelli yep, yep....wish i had one =/

^^ It is possible to commision live capture of one of these ... available locally BUT i have no idea on how to keep it. Like i said before demise of asian RTCs put me of wild caught stuff for awhile
