Hmmmm ... first thought was a really pale turquoise ... but if that's true, it's the palest darn turquoise I've ever seen.

Looks young and stressed. Not a good photo to try to get an ID out of, or to determine what they'll look like as adults.

I agree they are relative young and could be stressed, but am not sure if they are efasciatus - usually stressed efasciatus show very dark lateral stripes, and I've never seen any Heros without a hint of green (exceptions = gold and red).

I wonder if they are some kind of variants of Heros severus. The head shape looks a lot like me younger "Atabapo" (pic below) and, to a certain degree, their close relatives Hoplarchus and Hypselecara. Another tell is the last lateral bar - it "leaks" into the dorsal fin but rarely the anal fin in Heros severus, whereas it is supposed to leak into both dorsal and anal fins in all other Heros species.

I don't know about that. In one of Axelrod's miniatlas books there is a severum that looks very similar to this one. Never seen it in person though, and I may be wrong, worth checking out. I'm at work so I can't.

ohhh... i dont know. he had it for quite a while. so its possible he still has it.

i was tempted to get it at one point, but i didnt know what it was and if it would grow up to kill all my fish. lol

it was around 5-6" when i saw it last. He has a hard time selling his larger fish. so its a good possibility he still has it.

You could call the store and see and maybe he could ship it to you???

its called

Yeah these guys look just like the picture in Axelrod's revised third edition page 52. He only calls them heros severus. Maybe it's been changed, it's an old book, he calls everything heros severus in this book though.
