A while back I taught my Oscar to play with a ping pong ball and the jumping for food well at least till it jumped for food when no one was home.

Yeah I read it on a website and decided to try it. At first for a while it didn't bother with it till I stuck some wet pellets to it

i have a 5.5 inch large mouth bass and it has yet to jump that high. lol

Yeah, he's got hops. It's great because he uses it sometimes to get dragonflies and hummingbirds that get too close to the surface. Bass are incredible agile, strong, and fast. The trick is to get them not scared to be out of the water completely. I'm sure yours will be able to eventually. Just slowly raise the food higher from the surface each day.
 
For a long time, I had a JD that did this thing where he killed everything I put in the tank. Other than that, no.
