Hello All, This would be my first post on MFK. I curently have 2 hoplias malabaricus and 3 hoplias lacerdae from a recent collecting trip. Each fish has it's own personality even though they are all in identical tanks. I have had a malabaricus before that hid and didn't have much of an appatite and only ate live. Because of my last expience I started them on live fish for a week, no problem. Then I moved them on to frozen krill (still frozen, why should we be the only speicies that gets a slurpee brainfreeze) and they went crazy over it. Three days ago I tried cichlid pellets. They would attack them then spit them out, today however two of the lacerdae are eating Cichlid Extream pellets. I was always told that they don't eat prepared foods. Is this odd or do other peoples wolves eat pellets?

welcome to the board!
most if not all my wolves,of many species, ate pellets at some point.
i usually fed shrimp though.

welcome!BTW,what size r your malas?i have four malas, ranging in size from 4" to 7.5".the 2 fatter females love hikari massivore delite pellets.and when any of the four get picky or stubborn,i just dont feed them for 2+ days.THEY eventually give in to their hunger.i give them hikari large krill once a week and large dew worms once a month.VERY rarely do i give live feeders although one pair(1 pair in separate tanks)ripped the crap of a 3.5" JD the other day.i make sure to keep their water clean with triple system filtration, suck up their poo via 20% water change every 6 days, add salt every week, and maintain temp between 24-27 celsius.....good luck........P.S. if ever u get tired of any of your LACS,im willing to buy,LOL,coz thats my birth city.im now in edmonton:).

Ahhh. a fellow Canuck! I had the Lacs posted on a different forum, I didn't post them here since shipping outside Canada is a pain. If you want one let's talk eh! The malabaricus I have are 11" and 5" and I'm not sure on the sexes.

And thanks to all who replied to this thread. It's great that the new ones take pellets and have a more cantankerous personality than my first one.

My 10.5" mala devours cichlid pellets. There was a time when it was the only food he would hit immediately once it hit the water. That has changed though. He now hits anything immediately once it hits the water :D

Do you guys have pics of your wolfish, I love looking at pics of other owners wolfish! They are one of my favorite fish to own.

My wolf fish attacks big shrimp(like an 4in convict) immediately once it lands on the substrate(sand). But it does not seem to like the medium size shrimps.
Also feeding big-size food makes its belly looks huge.

hi john,
how are your 2 malas eating now?AND do you know anyone in canuck country who sells an aimara?thanks, neil.

Hey Niel, The new malas and lacerdae are taking anything I give them viciously. The older malas is shy and only taking live and occationaly frozen Krill. It is neet to see them eat and see the food in there belly instantly.
