I am thinking of building a Bio Filter tower. I need to know where I can get a tower from or has anyone ever built one? Or have links to them.

johnptc built one you can pm him and ask him.... I got a 6'x12" piece of black ads pipe and plan on making one from that.... any good supply yard will have that pipe....

I saw one thread from Johnptc, but I am looking for ideas like yours. I like that idea. Anyone else make one or have pics of custom ones?

I'm going to make one out of an old goofy light/bubble tube. pretty much anything that holds water can be a bio tower:)

I did one on my first fish tank. Made an overflow hole at top, then water is distributed to 8 3" pipe running downwards filled with bioballs. Water is collected t the bottom sump. well actually just a plastic bin. Its a 3' high tank so I have an eight piece 3' drop/tricling water.

I've made a couple of bio-towers over the years. PVC pipe...10" or larger diamiter and as long as possible...a handful of fittings...a couple of pieces of egg crate for a media base. Metal strapping to secure it to something....Bio-media (bio balls....scrubbies... a pre-filter bag...smaller PVC pipe...1/2" for the inlet pipe and your ready to go.

PM if you'd like more information or I could always knock out a set of plans and post them.

The only one of them thats still running is in my former State or AZ on a pond so I don't have access to any pictures of them at the moment but they are not very complicated. The diamiter of the pipe should increase in size acording to the water flow. Too large and some of the media will be totally dry...and too small...not enough air will reach the bottom.

I like the idea of the clear pipe by the way...use an attractive bio-media and do a nice job on the plumbing and a bio-tower could also be a cool conversation piece for fish nuts. LOL
