I'm going to begin building a new pond soon and have been doing some research on "BOGS". Has anyone built one????? but more specifically has anyone built one using Aquascapes centipede ???? It seems like a pretty cool deal. A bit pricey but cool. I've relied heavily on plants and light stocking/feeding on my current pond for 15 years with great success and a bog just seams like a good idea for the new one. I'm up in the air on my final pond size but it should be around 20'x30'

Bogs anyone ???????

Thanks.....

I'm building a dussy. I have the tropical pond thread. I just found a leak in it so I'm going to have to backtrack a little bit. My other pond has a bog and its been working great. The water is crystal clear. I have pipes undereath letting water flow up through the plants.

Bogs Rock....

I will use the centipede on my next pond. Yes, they are a bit on the pricey side, but Aquascapes have done a ton of R&D on there products. I use them exculsively and in the process of going through their certification process. I have seen the centipede installed and running and it looks awesome. It looks good and works/functions better. The ease of removing the pump in winter alone makes it a great choice. You will like the bog on your pond since the size alone will make the bog a great filter for you. I would have put a centipede on my current pond, if I hadn't already designed it w/o one. Instead, I have a shallow shelf that I coined my bog/wetland area. Basically the water flows past a heavily planted shelf on its way to the skimmer.

Try looking into a product called Matrix. They are a heavy duty crate that is used to take up space but not water space. I have installed and have "upflow bogs" You would have matrix and a pump canyon (for cleanout) and only about 6-10" of stone on top of them. So your pump will pump into the bottom and move up threw the roots of the plants. I am not an installer but have installed a few of them for friends, family, etc. Everything is made by PondBuilder and you can get it on eponds.com. Great people, they know what they are doing. I'll get some pics of some soon.
