This is from cichlids.com

One should then notice that you would need a filter. I personally suggest a biological filtration system or a wet-dry. A Fluval or Magnum are acceptable but will increase the maintenance jobs. The biological filter works just like magic. What this system does is that it continuously cleans the tank retaining the harmful bacteria. As it continues to retain these bacteria it turns it into compounds of good bacteria. So in other words keeps the water a lot more alkaline than usual.

Don't buffering compounds increase alkilinity? I also didn't know bad bacteria converted to good bacteria.

basically good bacteria in your biological filter is converting AMMONIA/NITRITE(or i guess according to this site BAD BACTERIA) into less harmful NITRATE(or according to this site GOOD BACTERIA COMPOUNDS) which is then removed by your water changes. as far as alkalinity i assume it has nothing to do with the nitrogen cycle

I dont get it. Sounds like some misuse of terminology ...

Just stay away from cichlids.com

MFK is pretty lenient when it comes to mentioning other sites, as long as you don't advertise and try to convert people. Just my observation being here.

Yeah, banning somebody for recommending another site is pretty weak-sauce. I know some sites do it, but it seems very petty.
