Anyone else feeding Mussels to their SA/CA ?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have become wary of live food. That has resulted in my wife and I making our own food for the fish. When it runs out and we're busy I just grab some tilapia fillets or go in the garden to dig some worms. I hadn't entertained the idea of fw mussels, gonna pick some up next time I go the grocery store. :)

I think seafood is a tough one. I believe that the best idea is to only provide food similar to what they see in the wild. Besides pellets of course. Freshwater fish wouldn't ever see saltwater food. I use this 1446533015166-978030078.jpg new life spectrum is the best

Although I do agree with the previous post, I do use peel and eat shrimp when I make my fish food. (And leave the chitin on) I think crustaceans occur just about everywhere there is water.

I have used the same shrimp, just wanted to plant the seed so to speak. I live coastal, enough so to watch the sun set on the ocean. I'm a huge supporter of seafood as what I have access to is still alive when I buy it.

You can feed as much as fresh seafood as you like, just make sure to freeze first (to kill most nematodes etc - notice I said most) and then supplement with B1 2-3 times a week. Boyd Vitachem is a pretty good vitamin supplement.
