This is a bit of a rant. I've been keeping fish a while and always loved bottom dwellers, especially oddballs like eels, loaches, etc. Lately it's been really frustrating. They usually hard to feed, sensitive, shy, and it's heartbreaking to lose one.
I understand that's also their appeal, but I'm just getting fed up. I'm going to the dark side with cichlids. I'm just at a point where I want a big, pretty fish that is hardy, always out and about, and easy to feed.

Anyone feel my pain? Any other points of view?

My passion only grows.

That's Christmas Oscar to you, buddy! :D

My Oscar is in the basement now. All my recent purchases have been catfish or bettas. At the moment I've got far more catfish than any other family of fish in my tanks. Sure, they hide a bit. But the anticipation makes seeing them all the more fun. For me, anyway.

It's almost February. :)

I get catfish, I still have my corys and plecos. Most cats are pretty hardy and have no problem eating. Eels on the other hand...

eels err! i find their great when their bigger and species like moorays but freshwater ones like spiney eels are a pain i remember i got 2 3" spiney eel babys a few months ago and i just couldnt get them to feed and i dont mean for a few weeks they starved them selves and eventually died and trust me i tryed everything live and frozen

He wasn't talking to you monsterberry lol.

Cichlids are awesome. But bottom dwellers are cool as well. I think it actually balances a tank out really well if you have both. Assuming you get species that get along.
