Everytime one of the fish I really like dies I just go in a "fish tank funk."

I don't really wanna mess with the tank. Don't even want to feed. Don't wanna do maintenance... just ignore it basically.

anyone else have that happen to them? been keep fish for 12 years and it still happens.

A couple of months ago I stopped coming to MFK for about a month after my African Arowana died. It was nearing twenty inches and I was totally bummed and not in the mood for fish after that.

So you mean... Do I ignore my fish so that things gets worse? Heck no. When I have a fish die (not often, but it happens) I get back to work even harder. I want to know why my fish died. Was it something in the water? Should I have done things differently??? If you have a healthy fish die for "no apparent reason", it doesn't make sense. There has to be a reason and I like to figure it out.:duh:

When one of my fishe's die I clean the tank right away and test the water. I have not had a fish death in ages. But when they do I get to work.

i still do the basic stuff but I don't clean algae and siphon every water change, ect. the parameters don't go to crap or anything.

hell a lot of the time I won't even turn on the light :(

I get upset and disgusted with myself when I lose one of my discus, but keep myself motivated to not let if happen again..........

When I lost my rdfh I went crazy. My gf could tell I was tore up about it. She tried her hardest to get a replacement but I didn't want anything. He was my buddy

R.I.P. Goji....you magnificent little man.

I would get VERY upset if my parrot Chrlie died. I had him since he was a fry and he is a good 8 to 9" now. Im very attached to him. I never usually cry over fish, a few times I have to admit but I would cry if he died for sure. Same with my oscar. He's awsome, attacks the glass, goes crazy, keeps me entertained.

I went in to a bit of a funk when i had a rainbow shark die in october, I had him from my first batch of tropical fish (i started in july) so about 3 months (I know not much compared to a lot of your guys losses, but i havent been doing this that long) - he had almost died when I first got him because i didn't add enough dechlorinator in a WC (got sidetracked) but i was able to get him going again, he was off balance and swam downwards for 2 days straight before he finally recovered. He ended up dying cuz my gf wanted a bala shark and I thought well, im upgrading soon so why not - the rainbow killed the bala and literally ate himself so full that he died :\
