Well I got layed off a couple months back and it started out a temporary thing but has now turned into permanent. And before i got layed off I was urged by 2 of my doctors to seek getting a surgery to help with my diabetes among other things. So since they had deemed it medically necessary, I took them very serious and started talking to several surgeons and went to a few seminars and even a support group to get as much info about the surgery.

So In the middle of all of this i was layed off. Which at first i thought was a blessing in disguise because it was only suppose to be for 3-4 weeks and that would give me the necessary time off to have the surgery and recover before returning back to work.

Know that i am out of work I had to switch my insurance coverage to my wifes plan. And I found out yesterday that her insurance does not have any coverage for surgical needs. That it is purely for prescription coverage and office visits to doctors. No hospital stays and no out patient coverage. But they will cover emergencies and acts of god. Such as a car wreck or stuff like that.

So besides being out of work and severely ill, I now find out I have no coverage for my illness. And if I want to regain any chance at a normal quality of life I have to some how come up with $17,736. -- Great

So I contact 4 different places that due medical loans and apply for a loan and guess what they say? "Umm sir you do not qualify for this loan because you have no way of repaying it, with you being out of work"------double great But I understand

So I guess I am kind of at a cross road in my life hear and just needed to vent it all out.

thanks for reading and if anyone has any advice or has been thru something like this before please feel free reply

It's how the system screws you. Honestly I'd rather we kill off everyone on death row in prisons immediately, get rid of welfare and start some sort of a medical help program for those out of work or those that need assistance and aren't on social security or senior citizen. This country wastes money on the wrong stuff and we're too capitalist in the way we let some companys, especially insurance companys(like ones that won't cover surgery) run.

If you get too sick and you need immediate care, like it's life or death, goto the hospital. They will treat you and bill you. Suck part is you'll have basically a 17k loan after that. I wish you luck though.

yea its rough. since im going to college im still on parents health care, but today my mom is going in to have what she believes is a layoff talk, as her boss is driving down from a hour away to the office. basically im in a place were i hope she's not officially laid off until my semester starts and i can get a some standard checkups, i need. not as bad as you but i can relate

Cost of a bowl of soup at homeless shelter: $0.00 dollars

Having Michelle Obama serve you your soup: $0.00 dollars

Snapping a picture of a homeless person who is receiving a government funded meal while taking a picture of the first lady using his $500 BlackBerry cell phone: Priceless

I may get some flak from people for this, but, I watched the movie SICKO by that roger dude and it gave such a clear picture of what it wrong in the USA.

I totally agree with the post above and the way that rich people and corporations run things is totally sickening :irked:

The health insurance industry deleted some posts...

Matt

Ha. At first I was trying to remember if I possibly put something offensive in any of my posts, and was being penalized for it.

Hybrid you should check to see what funding you can get through the hospital you are looking to have your surgury performed at. There are programs that give funding to supplement what insurance will not cover to help out people who would/ will beome overwhelmed by bills they would incur from receiving necessary medical treatment.

You could also try to get a job even looking at it as a 6 month/ 1 year investment, in a city or state dept (can't beat their insurance coverage). Court, School Janitor (whatever). Not saying that this is available to you or you haven't already thought about it, and am in no way trying to be condenscending or offensive, 17g is a lot of money but so is your health to you and your family, as I sure you also feel.

Hope something pans out for you
