i started pellet training my 6 pbass about a week ago.. the first day i threw the pellets in they were ignored as was expected. about 30 seconds after the pellets were in the water my gar started chowing down on them? has anyone else been this lucky? so far he will readily eat any food i have thrown in the tank being shrimp, tilapia, silversides, krill, pellets (massivore and hickori gold) i was worried about the gar not having a chance to eat since he shared the tank with 6 pbass but he will actually catch the food as soon as its dropped in the water

All but one of my gar eat pellets, and they are generally not that difficult to transition to pellets. Many times all it takes is them seeing another fish eat pellets, and they will try it. Although I've found that they tend to prefer floating pellets, as they're easier for them to get than sinking pellets are.

How big is your gar? I have noticed with most of my gars, that once they reach about 10" they all seem to start taking to pellets. I have a few that will even go down to the bottom of the tank and take sinking pellets.

mine took to them right a way. it takes them from anywere in the tank. deff has a prefurence for hikari food sticks.

I have 2 FloridaGars as for the pellets if they are really hungy the dominate one willl take the large hikari floating pellet but the other one will not! they readily will eat a whole frozen blood worm cube and frozen shrimp!

My Gators ate floating pellets as if there were no tomorrow
