I picked up a 2180 Pro III the other day on the cheap and am bringing it back to life for use on my 80gal bowfront. I have a new impeller on the way (holy crap these are expensive impellers at $70!) which should get it running perfectly once again. Just curious if anyone else is running this and if you have any tips. There is already media in it and he has ceramic tubes in the bottom two trays, some Eheim media in the 3rd tray that looks like coco puffs (?) and then the top is the blue foam filter which I guess is the first tray the way these circulate.. right? I also noticed that the hose adapter that plugs into the head of the filter is pretty difficult to remove and get set back in properly. Anyone else have this issue?

Man, this thing is a beast. I know it will be overkill for my aquarium but I had ordered an Aquatop canister that was MUCH less filter than this one and then this one popped up for sale the next day. I was able to cancel my order on the Aquatop and while I don't have UV built into this Eheim I think I will be much happier with it in the long run. Still not 100% sold on the benefits of UV running all the time as it kills all bacteria so I'm sure there's some good bacteria that gets blasted too. Dunno. Either way I'm excited to get this thing up and running to see how it performs.

Howdy,

Good filter for the size tank you have, definitely NOT overkill. Matter of fact, you may need to consider

Glad you bought it on sale, it's absolutely not worth its sticker price.
