I was thinking about trying these shrimp out. I had one a long time ago but I never bred it because I only had 1. I was reading around about them but one article said the babies need salt in the water. I dont know if this is true. Its a good size shrimp too, so if its worth it I might try it. But if you've bred them, how did you do it? Do they need salt? Are they safe with other shrimp? Anything else? Thx

im gona say is not true abou the salt an lfs had a small tank with them and they had tons of babies and all different sizes. i am surprised they even spawned. being filter feeders in a small tank...not much food but i guess they learned to scoop off the bottem

Hmm. Anyone know the finer details? LIke how many babies they have, how often they spawn, if they are safe with other shrimp, what water conditions, and all the other good stuff.

Hmm, some info online says they need salt during larval stage. Oh well, I prefer to take the word of an MFKer than some website with a random author. That is, if the MFKer has actual experience. I like their size because they get much bigger than alot of shrimp. But are they easy to breed? Can they be mixed with other shrimp? I know they are filter feeders though.

They haven't been bred and the babies successfully bred to my knowledge. The larvae need full marine or high end brackish to grow to my knowledge.

I've heard of one guy who is working on it now though, I'll see if I can remember who.

I've read an account of someone who got larvae but they died (it's in the aqualog shrimp book).

I have a pair of them and my female has gotten eggs in the past, but i missed the larvae. Next time I'm goign to try raise them, in marine water with phytoplankton :).

haven't bred these shrimp, but a friend breeds peppermint shrimp. The eggs hatch at night and he uses a nightlight to collect the fry cause they are attracted to light, then he siphons them out.

I have no experience breeding these shrimp but I do have a pair in my community tank with 2 amano shrimp, 7 ghost shrimp, and 2 whisker shrimp. I also plan on adding some RCS when I place my order, I have a breeding tank set up and would also like to add a couple to my community tank. The fish don't bother with them either, they are peaceful shrimp who just literally sit and filter sit and filter. Mine have been known to filter on the same object next to one another or one will have its fans open and the other one closed. So I think to answer your question is as long as you don't put them in with an aggressive species I do not see why you could not keep them with other shrimp.
