has anyone ever bred P. Reticulata? and if so what size do they have to be before they will breed?

and how fast do retics grow? do all species grow about the same speed or no?

ive heard an account of a retic mother giving birth to 3 pups at 6 inches but i dont know the size of the tank or the size of the father and for growing i have no clue lol sorry

Sombody here in MI and on this site breeds them. Um, I don't really remeber their name, or the size of there retics. But people do breed them. It is just that they are left on the back burner while every body else goes for the more appealing rays and trys to breed them. But yeah they have and do bred.

just as easily as the rest tho? or are they harder and that is why people dont bother? i think they look nice so i dont mind breeding them if it will be just as easy as the other rays are.

I don't think it would be any harder. People just don't really take an intrest in them cause they are so common and are labeled as being very un hardy when little. I didn't find that to be true when I had mine though. I think it is just that people want somthing other than a brown ray and that they don't really get the credit that they deserve. Plus they tend to grow slower and a lot of people don't like spending a lot of money on black worms to get them to a good size where they take less expensive food. Even though I don't have one anymore they are still one of my favorites and the first ray I owned.

i feed mine chopped earth worm and i dont plan on black worms. i hope they evntually grow fast tho. i might treat them with prazi pro to remove any tapeworms from the wild.

i will also get them to eat chopped shrimp eventually but i havent tried yet.

Mine wouldn't touch either, he would eat small pieces of smelt though. That is a good thing to get them on cuse it is less expensive than shrimp.

i buy a shrimp ring for my piranha's and its only $1.99 on sale. i buy a couple and freeze them when they are that price. other wise they are $2.99. a varied diet is good for any species of fish to eat and grow so i figure why not try lol

RAYKEYPR and her husband AJ breed reticulata (AJ is a moderator on AP). They have a breeding group of two large females (roughly 12") and a male (roughly 9").

I don't think that they are any harder to breed. People get distracted by the patterns and colors of some of the rays and don't pay attention to the "plain brown" reticulatas and histrix.
