I have a new tank and in order to get it where I want it, I'll have to stand it on it's side in order to fit it through a door. I've never done this before and am very hesitant of trying it for the first time.

Anyone want to put odds on the whole thing shattering to pieces as soon as I do?

Ive done it a few times with a few different sized tanks. You really shouldnt have any problems unless you set it up and theres something small undernieth the surface, (for say a pebble) then it might shatter.

Btw Nice to see another ohioan :)

I think its more about the way it is moved. All products used to build a tank should hold up. A regular rectangle tank should hold the weight when centered just if top sways or it is pushed out of alignment it might break the seals. You are going to put outrageous amounts of weight in rocks and water in there and you are worried about dead loads carrying very little in glass I think you have little to worry about.

just be careful that u put it on a flat surface so the pressure is even. you should have a problem if ur afraid of scratching the glass just put a towel flat under it.

ive stood my 7x2x2 tank on its end while cleaning. it'll be fine

Thanks everyone. It's a 165.
I plan on putting carpet padding under it to cushion it a bit. I'll let you all know how it went.

lol that made me laugh

i had to do it with my 220 to move it and had no problem, i'd say you'll be fine.

All went exceptionally well and I'm proud to report there was absolutely ZERO flooding throughout my house [Thanks for the tip on removing the water, lol]

There were a few hairy moments primarily due to the stairwell I had to stand it up on is narrow enough to only allow one person on each end goes seemingly straight up.
It's in place and all ready to cycle!
