Anyone ever tried mixing Peacock Bass with ATFs?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i got them both together at about 3" .... Peacock bass ate 1 GATF within 5 months... got rid of the peacock bass after... if the bass is a lot smaller then maybe, but the problem could be reversed... IMO peacock bass are too bold, too aggressive, too fast growing and have too big of a mouth to be kept with tigers, unless mixing fish that are upwards of 12-16 inches... but then again never say never, you may get it to work

Okay. Well looks like the consensus is that it's a bad idea. My ATFs are around 7-8 inches and the pbass are around 5. I figured I would grow out the Pbass until they're around the same size then introduce them.

Anyone want to buy some healthy Temensis? :grinno:

Growing them out first would be an even worse idea! lol The pbass will grow much faster and beat the hell out of the ATF.

If you try again with pbass that are about 6-8" once ALL of your tigers are over a foot, you might be able to make it work. Risky as hell though.

Well my original thought was to grow the pbass to around the same size as the ATFs. Introduce them and hopefully the ATFs would leave them alone. Then even if the Pbass out grow the ATF they wouldn't be able to swallow the ATF since they are already 7-8 inches. The problem I can foresee now is that the ATF have reached a size (age) where they're becoming more aggressive and want to kill. They shredded the Flagtail which is mostly silver but leave my albino Tin Foils alone. Which are exactly the same size and shape but not silver.

I'm guessing they're mostly aggressive towards other silver fish so maybe the Pbass experiment might work. :screwy: I'm gonna wait a little more longer so the pbass are a little bit bigger. Then put them in on a weekend when I can watch them closely.

Well, only one way to find out! :nilly:

Sounds like a great opportunity to experiment and document your results for the betterment of the hobby. I'm eagerly looking forward to the read! I love pbass too and if it works for you, I might be inclined to try somewhere way down the road.
