Ive seen people use fishing line as a form of media. Does anyone use it or recommend it? I figured since its easy to shape i may use submergered or as a part of my wet/dry.
I believe that someone used it in their filter for there outdoor pond. It should will work I don't know how well, and you would probably be better off with pot scrubbies but it will work.
The surface area per volume ratio should be good. The best part is the price. Many popular fishing areas have line disposal containers that could be emptied. Better yet, if you get in good with your local sporting goods store you could probably get a whole garbage can full!
I agree on the scrubbie front, although it's an interesting idea, at the start of each season I strip all my reels and have nothing else to do with it, I'd still go with scrubbies, PM zennzzo he sells them by the ton
thanks for the info guys. I use alot of scrubbies right now, along with bio balls, and foam media. I was just thinking about the fishing line becaues i can get alot of it for pretty much free. I would add it to the all the orginial media i have in all my filters. Prob in the empty space, and i dont have as much submerged, i would like to have more under the water as well.
I figure if i can get alot of it for free, why not use a bunch of it in my wet/dry. Prob going to test it out on both of my pond, they have plenty of space for more media. I also thought about inclosing them in cavan, and form them into squares or sheets. Easier to work with.
I usually like to add Fludized bed filter to my setups, but the last two leaked over time, dont want to have one break and pump out most of my water.
