i bought 3 bags of desert play sand to use in my 250. it seems to be extremely clean and a little heavier than regular play sand. its pure white, but i have some black estes i may mix in.

anyone ever use this stuff?? i know playsand is fairly common, but ive never seen anyone use this stuff.

will post some pics later or tomorrow once the fish in my 75g go and join the fish in the 250g, and pray no one decides to feast on sushi :popcorn::popcorn:

I havent heard of it before, so I am waiting for pics...

I just put in regular play sand in my tank, on the back it actually says for use in -fish bowls and aquariums. I think any sand is safe for aquariums. You should obviously avoid sand from he ocean because it has crushed shells.

This isn't the stuff they sell for reptile enclosures is it? A lot of that is calcium sand and could cause some problems.

nope. its sold in home depot right next to the playsand. it has the same warning on it that my blasting sand did about having some silica in it, and blah blah blah.

it was called "high desert play sand" same feeling and texture as playsand, just a little heavier and bleach white. looks pretty good so far, as it holds ridges and shows lot of ripples and texture to it. quite pleasing for the first 30 mins so far :)

on a side note......i HATE cleaning and rinsing 150lbs of sand:cry:

Hope it works for you. I found the light colored sand to be a real pain. It shows every speck of fish waste. And then you throw several pieces of driftwood and a royal pleco into the mix and what a mess.

pool filter sand is the way to go, no rinsing needed it's so clean...$15 for 50# around here

nice. what store?

Royal plecos + driftwood are a mess no matter what color your substrate is. They're nonstop pooping machines.
