Well been thinking of getting one of these to try it out. Ive read all about them, know the risks of the cheap parts on it, etc...
My thought was to sinply do away with the foam in it and fill with biomax media. To us it as simply a bio-chamber per say..
has anyone ever done this.
Thinking if the pump is in the bottom though, I would have to cut the bottom black pad and leave about 1" or two of the pad in it to keep the biomax away from the pump.. But as I have not seen the inside of one of these, not sure yet as what I would have to do.

Any ideas....

anyone??

You probably could, but if you take the foam out your media is gonna be filled with crap out of your tank.. You'll be rinsing your media out alot.

I do ,, I put all the biomax inside a media bag though.., I have 4 bags of it inside and have the pad on the top that came with it.. I used it just for bio.... Because I don't know where to get foam replacements for it.. Works great for a cheap product.

And as far as crap goes.. My fx5 takes care of most of the dirt in my tank. So I don't really see much stuff on my csf500 when I'm doing my cleaning...

They actually have the new model csf700 it's taller and have more room.. Plus it's 700gph for $80 which is not bad...

Its a Odyssea CFS 500 Filter. They also make a CFS 700 model.
Ive seen them on ebay for around 60 bucks...

Ya, I thought of that also but its not going to be the only filter on the tank. It would be more of a backup for the bio. I have a Fx5 on the tank rt now with a 405 and planning on replacing the 405 with another Fx5, but thought maybe just to use this instead of the second Fx5 since the tank is only a 150g
